TV actress, Kate Ford, has pledged her personal support to MIDIRS 10K run fundraising campaign, ‘Running for your little lives’, in aid of mother and baby charity Baby Lifeline.

MIDIRS was delighted when Kate, well known for playing Tracey Barlow in the popular UK TV soap series Coronation Street, agreed to support the appeal. As a Vice President of Baby Lifeline, Kate is more than familiar with the work of this unique organisation.

Kate said “I am delighted to add my personal support to the MIDIRS and Baby Lifeline fundraising 10K run in London in July. As a premature baby myself, and now a pregnant mum, I want to support the partnership and the aims of these two charitable organisations.

The loving care and support that Baby Lifeline offers to pregnant women and newborn babies and their caring professionals is irreplaceable, not to mention the money raised over the last ten years which has helped to purchase vital equipment and clinical training for maternity hospitals and services within the UK.

However, there is still a lot more work to be done. With the help of MIDIRS, a fantastic resource service, that provides essential information surrounding the choices women have throughout their pregnancy, birth and postnatal periods, I am sure this worthwhile fundraising campaign will prompt people to offer their support in many ways”.

MIDIRS team of 10 runners welcomed the news of Kate’s support as they prepare to tackle the challenge of the 8th Annual ASICS British 10K London Run on Sunday 6th July 2008.

As well as appealing for the individual support of friends and colleagues the MIDIRS fundraising appeal is also aimed at larger maternity care organisations.

MIDIRS Marketing Manager, Sue Penn, who is involved in organising the campaign said “The news of Kate’s support is fantastic and will help raise increased awareness of the ‘Running for your little lives’ campaign, which we hope will reach the ears of those larger organisations who share our mission of assisting in the improvement of maternity care.

Our target of £5,000 will add much needed support to the work of Baby Lifeline and in helping to supply hospitals up and down the country with vital life-saving maternity equipment, as well as supporting training and education programmes for midwives, obstetricians and neonatal experts”.
