Six intrepid individuals from MIDIRS, are preparing to embark on a demanding endurance challenge that promises to push their physical and mental strengths to the limit.
On 10th and 11th July 2010, the MIDIRS team will set off to climb the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in aid of Action Medical Research, the children’s charity devoted to finding and funding research which aims to reduce the suffering of babies and children and their families caused by disease and disability.
With the support of friends, family and colleagues, MIDIRS team of six employees aim to raise a minimum of £2000 for the charity by entering the well-recognised and highly regarded British Three Peaks Challenge. This testing event involves walking or climbing to the summits of Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (Yorkshire) and Snowdon (Wales). The MIDIRS team aims to complete the challenge within a staggering 24 hours.
Andy Fisher, MIDIRS Business Manager and team member, said ‘We are really excited about this fundraising challenge. Not only is it a fantastic adventure, but the fact that our efforts will go towards supporting such a worthwhile charity, is doubly rewarding'.
'MIDIRS is wholeheartedly committed to raising funds that can be invested in further research into pregnancy and birth complications. The fact that every week more than 25 babies die in the UK as a result of complications arising from premature birth, gives our cause added impetus’.
'During the coming months, we will be focusing, not only on getting physically and mentally fit, but in ensuring that news of our appeal and the work of Action Medical Research reaches the attention of MIDIRS worldwide network of health care professionals’.
Those taking part in the MIDIRS Three Peaks Challenge include Michelle Brumby, Steve Clayton, Tasha Cooper, Andy Fisher, Ann-Marie Kelly and Jennie Roe. Additional fundraising activities are also planned including a quiz night, barbecue and cake-making extravangaza.
