MIDIRS delivers over 15 million units of information

Renowned for its evidence-based information resources for health care professionals, MIDIRS recently announced that a total of 15,792,079 units of information had been delivered to customers during 2008.

Despite a downturn in the number of full-time practising midwives in the UK and the continuing economic crisis that has seen a decline in consumer confidence over the past 12 months, MIDIRS determination to meet its mission of assisting in the improvement of maternity care by producing and delivering a range of practical resources based on the best evidence-based information available, has paid off.

Andy Fisher, MIDIRS Business Manager said: ‘There are huge demands on health care professionals at the moment, which has made MIDIRS doubly committed to supporting them in their practice and studies by providing improved information services which are both practical and affordable. Considering that 2008 was a challenging year in many respects, we are delighted that MIDIRS logistical performance during the last 12 months has remained positive’.

*Included in the 15,792,079 information units is a staggering 10,000,290 searches which were requested and delivered from MIDIRS online reference database (www.midirs.org/ols) and delivery of a further 93,600 units of MIDIRS E-Digest, currently managed by OVID, a part of Wolters Kluwer Health (www.ovid.com).

Andy Fisher continued: ‘These results have been achieved by meeting the ever growing demand to supply information through new media channels. The recent launch of MIDIRS Podcast service (www.midirs.org/podcast) is a good example of how a simple, yet effective learning resource can be delivered within minutes, to a worldwide audience.

‘We are confident that MIDIRS is in a strong position to continue its development of innovative new products and services for future generations of health professionals, pregnant women, their families and carers’.

* Examples of information units include: an article in MIDIRS Midwifery Digest, a href='http://www.midirs.org/midirs/midweb1.nsf/files/ols+download+area/$file/standardsearches2008.pdf'> MIDIRS Reference Database search , a MIDIRS Informed Choice leaflet, or MIDIRS Essence (e-newsletter) publication.
