She has always been interested in research, and worked as a midwife researcher before moving into midwifery education. She researched the issue of anti-D and rhesus negativity and published a book on this subject. She has also written several booklets for the Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services (AIMS), and is the editor of the Midwifery: Best Practice series and author of a book about women's health, knowledge and wellbeing, called Sacred Cycles. She has recently finished editing a research workbook, which is coming out soon, and is currently working as an independent midwifery lecturer and consultant and is also working on her PhD, in which she is looking at midwifery knowledge in relation to "post-term" pregnancy.
Sara writes a lot for midwifery and parenting journals as well and speaks around the world at midwifery and birth conferences. She is on the Editorial Board of The Practising Midwife, a contributing editor for Midwifery Today, and writes a regular column called "Thinking Outside the Box" for The Practising Midwife.
