Writing for publication - through the eyes of an editor

Writing anything at all is often seen as associated only with the arduous task of completing the assignment or dissertation. It is often hard and stressful work which does not always seem to have much purpose - being read by only the lecturers and a few committed colleagues perhaps. This podcast explores the main types of papers taken for publication, offers tips on how to present your work to make your article robust, as well as reader friendly, and demonstrates how being successful in getting an article published can be a really uplifting experience in the end!

Dr Sally Marchant has been MIDIRS Editor since December 2002. Her background is in clinical midwifery, research and education, all of which are highly useful within her current role. While Sally has used the analogy of being a sort of ‘parent’ in her role as editor, she wishes to point out that she is just one part of the editorial team. The Digest would not be produced without Val Dickens, Copy Editor, Ann Smythe, Publishing Officer, Steve Clayton, our Graphic Designer, and the support, knowledge and input from MIDIRS editorial board. Sally’s whole philosophy as an editor is to facilitate communication and knowledge through writing.

Fantastic presesntation. Just what I needed and will be sending it on to colleagues.I think it would be a great item to watch in a group to get us motivated to write. We have talked about setting up a journal club at our maternity unit and I think this would really get people going and make article writing more achievable. Thanks. You will be hearing from me.Best wishes from Karen.
