With summer approaching, the question of how best to look after babies in the sun is going to be arising more and more. It is an important question, and parents must be properly educated in baby sun protection in order to make informed choices about looking after their children’s skin health through the warmer months.

We are third year midwifery students, Ashley Pedersen and Pamela Brodie, and are coming to the end of our training at Liverpool John Moores University, an experience that we agree has been the most amazing, challenging and terrifying achievement of our lives.

We live in a polluted world with various allergic triggers for babies and young children. Everything placed on, in or around us has the potential to cause allergic sensitisation.

Both new and expectant parents find themselves presented with many choices and decisions; some are pretty straightforward, while others because they are not simply a ‘black or white’ matter, can present more of a dilemma. For this reason, it is imperative that parents have access to reliable and accurate information that they are able to understand and, upon which they are able to base their choices and make informed decisions.
