Welcome to Essence

From the Editor - May, Issue 62

This month's Essence has a definite international flavour to it. Coinciding with International Day of the Midwife on 5th May, our main article focuses on the work of SafeHands for Mothers and how you can help support our campaign to assist in reducing maternal morbidity rates in developing countries.

Nancy Durrell McKenna offers an insight into her experience of filming and recording maternal care in Sierra Leone, while midwife, Sam Perkins, gives a compelling report of her trip to Uganda with Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF).

This is just a taster of this month's news. If you have experienced working as a midwife in a foreign country or have completed your elective placement overseas, then please contact spenn@midirs.org with full details. We would love to hear from you.

Until next month.
