Early Labour Conference - Thursday 11th September 2008, University of York, UK 
This conference will disseminate the findings of early labour research from four randomised controlled trials conducted in England, Scotland, Wales and Canada.

The research and presenters are as follows:

The SELAN randomised controlled trial evaluated structured early labour care and was led by Professor Ellen Hodnett, Chair of Perinatal Nursing Research, University of Toronto.
Speaker: Julie Weston, Senior Trial Co-ordinator.

The ELASH trial compared early labour assessment and support at home with telephone triage for women having their first baby.
Speaker: Dr Patti Janssen, Dept Healthcare and Epidemiology, University of British Columbia.

TELSIS (The Early Labour Study In Scotland) compared the effectiveness of an algorithm for diagnosis of active labour for women expecting their first baby with standard care.
Speaker: Helen Cheyne, Research Programme Co-ordinator, Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Research Unit, University of Stirling.

ELSA - The Early Labour Support and Assessment trial investigated home visiting in early labour for women having their first baby.
Speaker: Helen Spiby, Senior Lecturer (Evidence based practice in midwifery), Mother and Infant Research Unit, University of York.
