Physiology of breastfeeding and lactation ...

More Info Physiology of breastfeeding and lactation

In 2005 the research carried out at the University of Western Australia changed the traditional view of the anatomy and physiology of the lactating breast (Ramsay DT et al. 2005). As these researchers write ‘this study highlights inconsistencies in anatomical literature that impact on breast physiology, breastfeeding management and ultrasound assessment.’ This new standard search – PN158 – Physiology of breastfeeding and lactation – has been created by MIDIRS team of information professionals to feature information relating to this important and still changing area of knowledge. Updated on a daily basis, Standard Search PN158 covers the physiology of breastfeeding and lactation, including development of the lactating breast before, during and after pregnancy, and throughout the lactation period. It includes the role of the infant in relation to the physiology of breastfeeding (e.g. reflexes, cleft lip and palate) and the physiology behind breastfeeding problems such as mastitis, engorgement, and lactation insufficiency. It includes articles that predate the recent developments in our knowledge of the breast. The resources in this Standard Search range from journal articles, online news items, research reports, press releases, government publications to web-based journal articles. Each search contains full bibliographic references and an abstract.
