UK charity NCT has launched its #BeyondBabyBlues social media campaign, to help raise awareness of maternal mental health.
NCT’s research shows 18% of parents call the charity’s helpline to discuss maternal mental health, but just 35% said they had not seen a health care professional about it.
Following the launch of the social media campaign, the Royal College of Midwives has said that it supports the cause.
“Midwives play a central role in promoting the emotional well-being of women and their babies and in ensuring that all women with mental health concerns get appropriate and timely care.
“This is why the RCM continues to call for a specialist mental health midwife in every Trust and Health Board with maternity services in the UK,” Professional Policy advisor at the RCM, Janet Fyle said.
Midwives can follow and contribute to the social media campaign by using the hashtag #BeyondBabyBlues on Twitter and Facebook.
