Jon Snow has covered a range of worldwide issues during his journalism career and is proud to become a patron for SafeHands for Mothers.
“I’m proud to become a patron of such a much needed charity – providing resources to mothers in challenging environments in the developing world.
“[I am] Proud to support ‘SafeHands’ in their continuing effort to render pregnancy safe and to battle against the continuing widespread presence of FGM in our world,” Jon Snow said.
The Channel 4 News presenter will be joining patrons: Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, Professor Ian Jacobs and Lord Naren Patel KT.
SafeHands for Mothers are currently working on the Making Pregnancy Safer Project in Northwest Ethiopia.
The project is now in its second year, which aims to improve the availability of facilities, midwives and other maternal health facilities across the region.
According to the charity’s latest newsletter, pregnant women in 81 villages can now access health centres using SafeHands’ ambulances, with deliveries being made by trained midwives.
