We are the UK’s nursing and midwifery regulator. We exist to protect the health and well-being of the public by setting standards for education, maintaining a register of nurses and midwives and investigating individuals whose fitness to practise is called into question.
This is an exciting time for professional regulation and Council has confirmed that education is a strategic priority over the next five years. To that end we have embarked on an ambitious programme of change within our education and standards function and are looking to expand out team as part of our commitment to develop new standards of proficiency for pre-registration midwifery.
About the role
You will be working as a senior team member and advisor within the Education, Standards and Policy directorate within the NMC. The initial focus of this role will be the development of new proficiencies for registered midwives, working under the direction of Professor Mary Renfrew, who has been appointed to be the senior expert adviser for this project. This is part of our ambitious strategic education programme of work. You will also actively contribute to the development of the education framework and our wider standards review.
You will also be expected to work effectively across directorates to deliver optimum balance between performance and quality consistent with the NMC corporate business and transformation plans.
To succeed in this diverse and demanding role you will have credibility within the midwifery community, be recognised as a leader, and have an understanding of midwifery education. You will be accustomed to driving through changes to standards or policies and have the ability to influence diverse stakeholder groups and provide informative and succinct reports on progress and achievements.
You will hold an active midwife registration with the NMC. You will be educated to masters level and have considerable experience in either midwifery practice or professional midwifery education and have knowledge of professional regulation or the monitoring of professional standards. You will be able to demonstrate leadership at a senior level and be able to communicate concepts and developments to a range of audiences.
You will have the ability to undertake some flexible hours and be able to travel within the UK when required. You will be able to work effectively in a variety of different environments.
Salary: £75,000 per annum plus benefits
