The Direct Debit Guarantee This Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits. If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit MIDIRS will notify you 14 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request MIDIRS to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request. If an error is made in the payment of you Direct Debit by MIDIRS or your bank or building society you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society. If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when MIDIRS asks you to. You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify us. Notes There will be no additional payment to you, but it will make a great difference to MIDIRS. For example if your subscription cost £10 we could reclaim an extra £2.50 from the Inland Revenue. We intend to use all monies raised under this scheme to support the development of a greater range of cost-effective information services for midwives. You must pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax for each tax year (6 April one year to 5 April the next) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that MIDIRS will reclaim in your donations for that tax year. This means that MIDIRS will reclaim 28p of tax on every £1 you gave up to 5 April 2008 and you must have paid at least 28p per £1 donated. MIDIRS will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 you give on or after 6 April 2008 and you must have paid at least 25p of tax per £1 donated. You can cancel this declaration at any time. If in the future your circumstances change and you no longer pay enough tax on your income and/or capital gains tax equal to the tax MIDIRS reclaims, you must cancel your declaration (see note 1). If you pay tax at the higher rate you can claim further tax relief in your self assessment tax return. If you are unsure as to whether your donations qualify for tax relief, ask MIDIRS, or ask your local tax office for form IR65 (can be downloaded from: www.hmrc.gov.uk).
