A birth centre in Utah, U.S., has become the first in the state to achieve national accreditation status.
Wasatch Midwifery and Wellness birth centre provides safe and financially-responsible maternity care to women within a spa-like environment.
Midwife and owner of Wasatch Midwifery and Wellness birth centre, Adrienne Brown, said: “We are excited about our status as a nationally accredited birth centre. With this distinction, we have designated the framework of our practice to include a high level of clinical competency and respectful maternity care, all while honouring natural processes.
“Every person has the right to receive respectful, professional and safe maternity care.”
Parents who have used Wasatch Midwifery and Wellness birth centre have commended its maternity care, saying it provides more personalised care than a hospital.
Daniella Hansen, who gave birth to her third child at the birth centre, said: “After delivering my first two babies in a hospital, I knew I needed to find something new. Something better. I knew I was going to do it at home, and that’s when I found Adrienne. She was very caring and encouraging.
“I really trusted her because she trusted me; that I could do it naturally.”
Wasatch Midwifery and Wellness is a midwifery practice based near the Wasatch Mountain Range in the state of Utah.
Midwives and doulas at the birth centre provide care from pre-conception planning to postpartum check-ups, as well as honouring various maternity care options in pregnancy.
