A US hospital has opened nine new maternity rooms and modern delivery unit designed to be more versatile to women and their family’s needs during childbirth.
Mercy Health’s Saint Mary’s, in Michigan, designed the maternity suites with a more modern approach; furnished so that mother and baby can be in the same room, as well as focusing on other members of the family by adding additional amenities.
Clinical Services Manager at the Mercy Health Birth Center at Saint Mary’s, Linda Foster, said: “It’s an experience for everyone. We want to promote that experience for everybody and have the best bonding experience for mum and baby.
“We’ve designed it [that] way by really focusing on the significant other, or the support person, or the family, knowing that it’s not just an experience for mum and baby, but for the whole family.”
The renovated rooms include sofa beds, showers with jets and hydrotherapy tubs, as well as special touches such as a sound machine that plays soothing noises.
“Sometimes there’s need where the baby needs resuscitation and needs more medical care. And that’s over in this area which is spacious enough so that the mum can see from her bed in addition to her support people being able to be right there next to the baby,” Linda Foster added.
The community has been invited to an open day to view the new facilities Friday 5 January 2018.
